Chitwan is Nepal's lowland side, and it surprises people who came for mountains. It is a national park of grassland and sal forest along the Rapti river, and it is one of the better places in South Asia to see a greater one-horned rhino in the wild.
Two nights is the standard and it works well: an afternoon to arrive, a full day of park activities, and a slow morning before moving on. It is hot, so plan the middle of the day around shade.

How to reach Chitwan

Travel tips
- Neutral colours for safari — bright clothing works against you on a walking safari.
- Bring insect repellent and long sleeves for dawn and dusk.
- Wildlife is wild. Guides are good, but nobody can promise you a rhino.
- Avoid the monsoon months — grass is high, tracks flood, and sightings drop sharply.
