The Khumbu is the big one. Base camp trek itineraries run about two weeks from Lukla and back, climbing through Sherpa villages, monasteries and glacier moraine to 5,364 m.
It is not a technical climb, but it is a serious walk at altitude and the days are long. Acclimatisation days are built into every honest itinerary — including ours — and they are the reason people finish.
Highlights
- Namche Bazaar The Khumbu's hub at 3,440 m, built into a horseshoe of hillside. Your first acclimatisation stop.
- Tengboche Monastery The most photographed monastery in Nepal, with Ama Dablam directly behind it.
- Everest Base Camp The glacier, the icefall above it, and the prayer flags everybody has seen a photo of.
- Kala Patthar The dawn climb that actually gives you the view of Everest itself.

A rest day that is not restful — you walk high, sleep low, and it works.
Morning at Tengboche
Sit in on the monastery's morning puja before the day's walking starts.
Take the mountain flight
Not trekking? An hour in the air still puts you level with the summits.

How to reach Everest Region
- Fly to Lukla The standard start. Flights are weather-dependent, so leave buffer days at both ends.
- Walk in from Jiri The old approach. Adds roughly a week and a lot of acclimatisation.
- Helicopter options Available for part or all of the route. We will price it honestly if you ask.
Travel tips
- Insurance must cover trekking to your maximum altitude and helicopter evacuation. Check the wording, not the brochure.
- Never skip an acclimatisation day to save time. It is the single worst trade on this route.
- Cash — ATMs effectively stop above Namche and card acceptance is unreliable.
- Book Lukla flights with slack in your international dates; weather delays are normal, not exceptional.
