Pokhara
- Region Gandaki
- Typical trip 2 – 4 days
- Best time September – April
Pokhara is the softest landing in Nepal. It is warmer and lower than Kathmandu, it is built along a lake, and the Annapurna range rises straight out of the horizon behind it — close enough on a clear morning to feel unreasonable.
It works as a rest stop, a honeymoon week, or the start and end of the Annapurna treks. Most people plan two nights and wish they had booked four.
Highlights
- Phewa Lake Row out to the island temple, or just watch the mountains invert in the water at dusk.
- Sarangkot sunrise The classic dawn viewpoint for Annapurna and Machhapuchhre. Go early, dress warm.
- Paragliding Pokhara is one of the world's better places to fly tandem, and it is genuinely accessible.
- Caves and falls Davis Falls and the Gupteshwor cave sit opposite each other on the same road.
Things to do in Pokhara
Take a boat at golden hour
Half an hour on Phewa Tal as the light goes is the memory people come home with.
Sunrise at Sarangkot
Leave in the dark, arrive in the cold, watch the range turn gold in about four minutes.
Walk up to the Peace Pagoda
An hour on foot from the far shore, and the view back over the lake is the reward.

Travel tips
- Rooms with a mountain view cost more and are worth it — ask us to confirm the view, not just the room type.
- Book paragliding for the morning; wind conditions are usually better and flights get cancelled less.
- Lakeside has a wide range of food, so it is an easy stop for fussy eaters and small children.
- Clouds can hide the range for days in summer — build in a spare morning if the view matters to you.
