About Kiran Gurung

Kiran started on the Trishuli as a raft guide at twenty-two and picked up trekking work in the off season, which is the reverse of how most guides in Pokhara come up. It shows: he reads weather and water better than almost anyone we employ, and he is unusually good with people who are nervous.

He leads the Annapurna Sanctuary route, runs the adventure add-ons in Pokhara - paragliding, zipline, cave and canyon days - and takes a lot of our first-time trekkers, because he sets a pace that keeps a mixed group together instead of strung out over a hillside.

If you want to fly in the morning and be on a boat by five, he is the one who will make the timings actually work.

Everybody is brave on the bus. My job is to make sure they are still enjoying it in the water.
