Overview
The classic Nepal loop, arranged so that no day is spent entirely in a car and the sightseeing is broken up with a jungle. Kathmandu for the temples, Chitwan for rhinos and elephants, Pokhara for the lake and the mountains.
We plan around children: later starts, shorter monument lists, rooms next to each other rather than scattered across a floor, and drivers who will stop when someone needs to. Extra beds and connecting rooms are arranged at booking, not on arrival.
Nothing on this trip goes above 1,600 m, so altitude is not a factor for grandparents or toddlers.

Day by day itinerary
Day 1 – Arrive Kathmandu
Airport pickup, hotel check-in and an easy first evening in Thamel with dinner nearby.
Day 2 – Kathmandu sightseeing
Swayambhunath, Kathmandu Durbar Square and Boudhanath, with a long lunch in between and a free afternoon if the children have had enough.
Day 3 – Drive to Chitwan
Highway south to the Terai, arriving in time for a village walk and sunset at the river.
Day 4 – Chitwan safari day
Morning jeep safari in the national park, afternoon canoe on the Rapti and the elephant breeding centre, Tharu dance after dinner.
Day 5 – Chitwan to Pokhara
A half day drive up to the lake, with the afternoon free on the lakeside promenade and a boat if energy allows.
Day 6 – Sarangkot sunrise and Pokhara sights
Early start for the mountains, then Davis Falls, the cave and the Tibetan settlement at a gentle pace.
Day 7 – Pokhara free day, return to Kathmandu
Morning at leisure by the lake, then the drive or a short flight back to the capital for the last night.
Day 8 – Depart Kathmandu
Shopping in Thamel if the flight is late, then the transfer to the airport or the road home.

Frequently asked questions
- What ages does this suit?
- We run it regularly with children from four upwards and with grandparents in their seventies. Under four is fine too, but tell us so we can shorten the driving days.
- Are the drives long?
- The Kathmandu to Chitwan and Chitwan to Pokhara legs are five to six hours each with breaks. If that is too much, we can put you on a flight for one of them.
- Will we definitely see a rhino?
- Very likely - Chitwan has a healthy population and jeep safaris see them most mornings. Tigers are a matter of luck and we never promise them.
